The Benefits of our Giant Batik workshops |
Making a giant batik is fast and fun, with dramatic results being achieved in one day. But there are many more benefits for pupils as individuals and the school as a whole...
Benefits for Students
- They will learn about wax as a resist and colour mixing
- And make choices about colourfields and suitable batik tools
- They are encouraged to take joint responsibility for large collaborative pieces of art, which in turn builds self confidence
- A great sense of achievement comes from seeing the artwork on permanent display
- Less able students are at no disadvantage with this technique
- Students benefit from working closely with professional artists
- Students do not have to be good at painting or drawing to produce stunning results
- The whole process is fast and fun - and dramatic results are achieved in just one day.
Benefits for the School
- The theme of the work can be linked in with the national curriculum
- The process is safe and clean
- It is especially good for children with short attention spans
- All participants get a great sense of achievement and pride
- The finished batik is left at the school for all to see for many years
- Whilst the art is on display it can be used as a teaching tool to illustrate stories etc.
- The work can be used to raise awareness of current issues such as environmental issues, cultural differences, etc.
- It is an excellent opportunity for children to meet and work with outside artists
- This workshop encourages collaboration and cooperation as all the children involved work together on the same piece
